Day 2

Today I went to Heritage Point for my second Wii bowling activity. I was definitely a lot more confident going in to today knowing that I knew how everything worked. When I got there, which was 15 minutes before the class started, there were already 5 women and 1 man waiting to start! As we were getting set up, 2 more women came in which we made 4 teams, 2 people on each team.

Everyone was super enthusiastic and it was so much fun to watch them enjoy each others company. I loved watching how pumped they got when someone on their team bowled a good round. One of the elders that was playing named Paul was an unbelievable player. He was so good he even managed to get a spare by knocking down two pins in one roll that were on complete opposite sides of each other. Everyone got so excited when he did this and cheered for him the entire time. All the women were very impressed to say the least, not to mention he was the only guy playing.

Once again, most all of the participants knew how to play with ease. It was great to see how the ones that were having difficulties the first time really improved and succeeded this time around. I only had to help out one of the women with the motions once before she picked it up with ease. It was also great to see how all of the women offered tips to one another to improve their bowl.

Can't wait to go back!!

Day 1

On Wednesday November 5, I had my first Wii electronic bowling class at Heritage Point Senior Living Center. I was super excited, as I had volunteered at Heritage Point before doing a beading class, but this time I was in control and was given a leadership position. When I fist arrived I was thrilled to see that my name was on the activities board!

I was given an open room with a bunch of chairs, a big TV, and of course the Wii console. I got there early as to make sure all the remote controls were ready and the disc worked properly. Right away, two women came in the room and were eager to get going. One of the women seemed to be well experienced and dominated the game. She also showed me what would happen if there were say 5 or 6 players at once, being that there were only 3 remote control. She was a huge help. She also helped me write up a scoreboard on a piece of paper that helped everyone keep track of their games won/lost.

Once more people began to show up, I started adding them to the chart and showing them which remotes they would be using and therefore where it would be best for them to sit. Most of the women knew exactly what to do and how to play. One of the elders had only used the Wii once or twice before and was having difficulties which I was extremely happy to help her with. Helping this woman was definitely a highlight and a struggle as it was hard to get her to understand the positioning she needed to be in but was super rewarding when she finally got a strike. I loved watching how in to it and competitive some of the women got and how easily they scored strike after strike after strike! It was unbelievable!

I had such a blast helping lead this activity and I absolutely can not wait to go back. All of the women were so happy they came and said they couldn't wait for next time. :)
